Gay Travel Cabo San Lucas

A beloved retreat of celebrities, West Coast luminaries, and the fashionable set, Los Cabos is a stylish gay-friendly escape at the Baja Penninsula's tip spread over two coastal towns in Baja California Sur, Mexico: Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. A twenty-mile corridor connects the towns and forms a dramatic desert backdrop nestled between the coastlines of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortes.  Los Cabos distinguishes itself from many other Mexican destinations with its variety of top-notch activities, including world-class dining, traditional eateries, lush, championship golf courses, celebrated spas, epic and world-renowned sports fishing tournaments, whale watching, every water sport imaginable, and wild-as-you-want-it nightlife. For business travelers, Los Cabos boasts state-of-the-art convention facilities.  Los Cabos has become a favorite among travelers of all sorts, and it's not hard to see why given the unmatched resources of this spectacular destination.

There are three main areas to Los Cabos. San Jose del Cabo, the closest to the airport, is considered the Old Town. San Jose delivers the authentic Mexican experience, with its colonial architecture, art galleries, and lively town square encompassing much of Mexican life's laid-back ethos. Golf is a favorite pastime here, as is nature viewing at the San Jose Estuary.

Cabo San Lucas is a vibrant, exciting destination renowned for its nonstop nightlife. Jimmy Buffet and Sammy Hagar, who espouse their love of Cabo in various forms, made Cabo famous: Buffet with his Margaritaville and Hagar with his Cabo Wabo Cantina and Tequila. Here you will find the majority of the all-night party venues, as well as the oft-photographed Arch at Land's End.

Los Cabos Arch

A highway called The Corridor connects Cabo's raucous party scene and San Jose's traditional elegance. This is where Cabo’s gay-friendly resorts, golf courses, and super-luxury villas have spread like wildfire.

Los Cabos Gay Friendly Resort

Though the beaches in Los Cabos are scenic and a definite draw for sunbathers, many are not suitable for swimming due to rough surf and strong currents. Only a few protected coves offer a place to take a dip, such as the beach near Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort. For that reason, basking in the sun poolside is an ever-popular activity.

Cabo San Lucas Gay Scene

Los Cabos is a destination with a unique vibe, oriented to a high-level service experience.  It’s a great option for those who look for quality, variety, and fantastic moments.

Cabo San Lucas Gay Pride 2019 was very popular.  It’s typically an annual event held for over 12 years, but because of COVID, 2020 had to be suspended. Plans for 2021 are in place, following all current safety and social distancing protocols.

Generally speaking, the gay scene is low-key but very friendly. In recent years, many gays traveling to Mexico have been drawn away from some of the more popular destinations nearby, like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, in favor of Los Cabos. The sophisticated beach resort culture and the diversity of activities have continued to draw gay travelers who feel right at home here.

Best Time to Visit

Anytime, thanks to its great weather! Choose your best time and enjoy endless experiences; every day is a sunny day in Cabo.

Peak season is December 20 to January 1 for Christmas and New Year’s.

During the summer, Cabo is slightly cooler than San Jose, especially if the Pacific's winds are blowing rather than the Gulf. Cabo is also less rainy than San Jose, although both cities can be affected by occasional summertime hurricanes. March through July is considered the dry season, and Cabo is a popular Spring Break destination.  August through October is warm.  January is the driest of those months, making it one of the best times to visit for maximum sun!
