Even while stuck in isolation, we can still enjoy one of America’s favorite drinking holidays: Cinco de Mayo. May 5th marks Mexico’s victory in the battle of Puebla against the French in 1862.
Ironically enough, Cinco de Mayo isn’t heavily celebrated in Mexico, so why do we celebrate it now in the US? Thanks to President Franklin Roosevelt’s “Good Neighbor Policy” of 1933, which hoped to improve relationships with Latin American countries.
Even 87 years after Roosevelt’s presidency, the United States still partakes in food and drink to celebrate the Mexican victory over France. 2020’s quarantine won’t stop a tradition this long in the running. Here are some fun ways to enjoy the festivities.
These games can be played as a group online to maintain social distancing. Hop onto your favorite online conferencing (Zoom, FaceTime, Google Duo, etc.) First person to complete all the tasks wins!
Flip Cup
Drink the contents of a red Solo cup. Once finished, put it facedown on the edge of the table. Flick it over and over again until the cup lands face up.
One Person Beer Pong
Grab a ping pong ball and a cup (fill the cup with your liquor of choice). Toss the ball onto the table, and attempt to get it into the cup. Once it’s in the cup, drink the contents.
Never Have I Ever
Just like the game we all played as kids, but with an adult twist. Drink every time you have done something someone else hasn’t.
