We know that many of you share GayTravel's love of pets and recognize the silver lining in our current state of staying put...it means that our pets are getting lavished upon with all the love and attention they deserve!
Another silver lining? Those without pets are taking the opportunity to adopt and foster pets, and many shelters are reporting they are now empty. For example, Muddy Paws Rescue and Best Friends Animal Society which covers the New York City area indicates that the shelters they work with are either all out of or almost out of cats and dogs. This unprecedented situation is the result of a surge in applications of as much as 10-fold during the pandemic. It’s encouraging to see how something as devastating as what we now face can elicit such kindness.
GayTravel thinks Kaia Gerber says it beautifully when she suggests: “Now is a great time to foster a puppy in need... reach out if your living/financial situation allows." She then goes onto say..."I couldn’t separate the brothers" when referring to the two sibling puppies she is fostering from the Labelle Foundation, a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization. Kaia's quarantine pal, Cara Delevigne, is also fostering two pups, Hendrix and Bowie, from the same foundation.
This touching post on @KaiaGerber on Instagram is very simply captioned: "we stay home."

Even though many shelters are seeing increased adoptions and fostering, there are plenty of opportunities available. If you would like to help, please visit BestFriends.
Even if you're unable to foster pet, there are still ways to help shelters around the world. For example, "Puppy Happy Hours" are helping animals in need too and @muddypawsnyc recently tweeted:
"Thank you for everyone who tuned into our #GivingTuesdayNow puppy happy hour!
We raised an INCREDIBLE $1,200 during our live stream to help us save more pups in need!"
What is amazing is that while the pandemic offers silver linings for our pets, the silver linings extend to us too. By caring for our pets, we benefit health-wise, which helps boost our immune systems. Our "gifts of giving" come right back to us! Read more about this phenomenon in The Power of Pets.
For those who are allergic or for whom pets are not an option, there is always a plant! Caring for an indoor plant offers many health benefits too -- like fresh oxygen to breathe, air purification, mood enhancement, and much more. Just ask @plantkween whose video on Instagram posted March 23, 2020, will have you dancing in your greenhouse!
When it's time to take our pets out to play again, GayTravel Award Winning Boutique Hotel XV Beacon in Boston offers a "Dazzle Your Dog" package. The pet-indulgent package includes homemade dog biscuits on a personalized dish, plush dog bed and water bowl with filtered water, a ‘list of “pet-friendly” establishments, clean up bags, complimentary breakfast in Mooo...or through Room Service.
