The Virtual Zoo Is Open
Zoo animals are making their debut...in your living room! Yes, you really did hear that right!
While we're all doing our part to stay safe and help protect others by staying home, the world’s zoos such as the Smithsonian National Zoo, the San Diego Zoo & Safari Park, Zoo Atlanta, and the Melbourne Zoo have opened their world to us via live stream. Of course, since these streams are brought to you live, the animals won’t always be visible on the webcam -- they may be in their dressing rooms getting camera-ready!
At GayTravel.com, we're animal lovers, and we want all zoo animals to be treated like royalty and cared for with their best interest ahead of all else! So, when a Zoo Keeper like Adam is in charge, it gives us great comfort to see him hamming it up for the cameras and all of his fine-feathered friends at the Melbourne Zoo!
Zoos Victoria didn’t stop there, and subsequently, they challenged Keeper Adam to a dance battle with one of Melbourne Zoo's little penguin who really has the moves on the dance floor!
UPDATES FROM ZOOS AND PARKS AROUND THE WORLD
An update on the big cats at The Bronx Zoo: A tiger and other big cats at the Bronx Zoo tested positive for coronavirus earlier this month. GayTravel is pleased to report that the cats are feeling better and are expected to make a full recovery. The zoos and its zookeepers are practicing social distancing and new procedures are in place to help protect all parties.
An update on the hand-washing orangutan: A video that claimed an adorable orangutan named Sandra started washing her hands after watching her zookeepers do so during the COVID-19 coronavirus disease pandemic. The video went as viral as the virus itself; however, it proved to be false. The correct story is that the video was taken at the Center for Great Apes in Florida before the outbreak and depicts Sandra enjoying washing several objects and her hands in her tub. The Center for Great Apes has posted the viral video as a means to encourage following the CDC's instructions to wash your hands for at least twenty seconds. Here's what the Center For Great Apes tweeted on March 15: CenterForGreatApes @CFGA: She definitely scrubbed her hands for longer than 20 seconds, good job Sandra! :) #washyourhands #CoronavirusOubreak #coronapocolypse
Let's go to the video tape to see for ourselves:
Pin the tail on the zonkey?!? A baby zonkey with her mother were spotted at Chyulu Hills National Park in Kenya. While it's rare, a zebra mated with a donkey and now we are all blessed with a little zonkey. At GayTravel, we were tickled pink to learn that mother and baby are thriving. Here's a peek at this pretty pair:
