Gay Lanai

Lanai Island, also known as Pineapple Island because of its past as an island-wide pineapple plantation. Lanai is an island of intriguing contrasts. Hike the lunar landscape of Keahiakawelo (Garden of the Gods) or picnic overlooking Puu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock), named for a maiden Puu and her handsome warrior. Major resorts pamper you—from along the seaside, to the misty mountains. Whether you’re hiking among native ohia lehua trees on the Munro Trail or making your way to the 18th hole, Lanai is easily Hawaii’s “Most Enticing Island.”

Lanai sits only 9 miles away from Maui but they differ in many ways. There are two sides to Lanai, one being luxurious resorts where visitors can indulge in world-class amenities and championship-level golf. Gay travelers looking a more adventurous time can be found bouncing along the island’s rugged back-roads in a 4-wheel drive exploring off the beaten path treasures like Keahiakawelo (Garden of the Gods) and Polihua Beach. Its truly an offroader's paradise as only 30 miles of Lanai’s roads are paved.

Activities on Lanai include hiking, snorkeling, sport fishing, ocean kayaking, and more!

Being one of the least populated islands of Hawaii there is a lack of a strong gay scene on the island making it a total retreat for gay travelers looking to escape it all and get in touch with nature and nurture themselves. Hawaii is still incredibly accepting of LGBT people so don't fee as though just because there isn't a gay neighborhood that you won't be welcomed with open arms. The people of Lanai are very forward thinking and LGBT travelers are as welcomed here as any other Hawaiian Island.
