LGBT Scene in Canary Islands

Fuerteventura is probably one of the least known of the Canary Islands and if you are wanting the raving night life of the Gran Canaria scene, then Fuerteventura won’t be for you. But for some it does have an appeal. Is it the care free, laid back approach of the locals, the low crime rate, the fantastic weather all year round, the magnificent beaches – many of them naturist, perhaps you’ll just have to discover the island for yourself.
At the moment there is only one advertised gay bar on the island being Bubbles XX in the harbour town of Corralejo in the North. Popular with British tourists, the resort has developed over a number of years and pushed back from its original epicentre around an old harbour. Here you will find the resort bustling at all times of the year with its many shops, bars and restaurants. Bubbles XX Is open 7 nights a week from 10pm until the wee hours of the morning and you can find more information on this page and of course via social media. The saying’ less is definitely more’ does spring to mind with this very fashionable bar popular with gay locals and gay tourists.

But Fuerteventura is not just about the scene, there is so much to do and plenty to explore, lots of retail therapy including the large Las Rotundas Shopping Centre in the capital Puerto Del Rosario, to visiting museums, spending your day relaxing in the sun or patronising some of the tourist drag bars proudly displaying the rainbow flag in the tourist resort of Caleta De Fuste. October 2011 saw the inaugural ‘Rainbow Weekend’ an effort on behalf of the Fuerteventura Government and tourist associations to attract gay visitors to the island and in particular to the Town of Corralejo. The idea being that this will become an annual event when other parts of Spain and their gay establishments may be closing for the Winter.
