GT: What makes Dallas such a great LGBT destination?

DPP: Honestly, there are many reasons why Dallas has become such an incredible LGBT destination. Dallas is one of the few American cities that has centralized gay district, and ours is one of the best in the country. The Cedar Springs “Strip” has bars, clubs, shopping, restaurants, and lodging, all within walking distance. Though geographically Dallas is located in the heart of the bible belt, our city is extremely progressive with a large and diverse gay community. Purple Foundation was founded by a guy by the name of Saul Flores in 2001. His favorite color was purple. We’ve grown from a small local party to one of the largest all-volunteer gay dance benefits in the country..and we are still growing!

GT: What are some hotspots gay and lesbian travelers should check out when they are in Dallas?

First and foremost everyone has to spend time on the Cedar Springs “Strip”, but there’s also a fun city to explore outside of our beloved gayborhood. Dallas has the largest urban arts district in the United States and bordering the expansive arts district is the brand new Klyde Warren Park—which is something everyone visiting Dallas needs to experience. Dallas is also well known for some of the best shopping in the country.

GT: What are the top five reasons for gay travelers choose to go to Dallas Purple Party over others in the area?

DPP: Reason One: The #1 comment we hear from people coming to Purple Party Weekend from out of town is that Dallas is extremely friendly and everyone is so hospitable—southern hospitality at its best.
Reason Two: Purple Party Weekend is an all-volunteer, non-profit event. Its always better when you’re partying with a purpose—and our purpose is helping people in the Dallas area that are affected by or living with HIV/AIDS.
Reason Three: People often say that Purple Party Weekend is a great value. We offer a world-class experience at a very good price
Reason Four: Dallas is very centrally located in the United States, so traveling here from either coast is easy and affordable.
Reason Five: Dallas is known for having some very hot men!
