There’s a boy wearing Minnie Mouse gear at Disneyland this summer.
Well, a boy mannequin, that is.
The popular Anaheim, California theme park began expressing quiet support for gender non-conforming kids earlier this month when it debuted a boy mannequin dressed in Minnie Mouse attire in a store window at its California Adventure theme park.
The mannequin is wearing blue jeans and a Minnie Mouse t-shirt, which is accessorized with a Minnie Mouse hat and purse. He’s surrounded by a few dolls and a Snow White storybook.
“I think that it’s great that the Disney company can put something like this on display in the parks,” Jarret Hastings, a Disneyland annual pass holder, told The New Civil Rights Movement. “Not every guest may notice that it’s a boy mannequin with traditionally feminine attire but it goes to show that Disney is a supportive organization that welcomes everyone.”
Disneyland has long thrown its support behind LGBT causes. Though not a direct sponsor of the annual Gay Days celebration at both the Anaheim and Orlando park locations, the company has been accommodating and welcoming to guests.
This year’s Gay Days will take place October 2-4 at the theme park in Anaheim.
