Gay Cape Cod

Where is Cape Cod?  It's located in Massachusetts along the geographic hook part of the state that extends East and North into the Atlantic Ocean. From Boston, it's a mere 70 miles away but the contrast between "Bean Town" and "The Cape" is considerable.  One starts to get the feeling of escaping from the city and being on vacation just by taking the hour and a half drive.

Once there, you'll soon see why Cape Cod is an idyllic summer and maritime destination. It's known for its gorgeous sandy beaches, beautiful Atlantic ocean waves, and lots of summer fun!  You'll also be pleased to know it has a long history of welcoming LGBTQ+ travelers, and the iconic Provincetown, or "P-Town" as it's locally known is at the very tip of Cape Cod.

The Cape Cod gay scene is exceptional and inclusivity has been a part of the culture for decades.  Provincetown's history as one of the most popular destinations for gay travelers dates back to the 1960s and is absolutely worth a trip to the tip of Cape Cod.

All summer long, you'll find fantastic community spirit whether you're sunbathing on the beach, strolling the streets, shopping the quaint boutiques, dining in the charming restaurants, or bar hopping at night.  There is always something gay-friendly and fun to do on Cape Cod!

Best Time to Visit Cape Cod

The weather on Cape Cod warms up nicely in the summer months making it the ideal time to visit.  There's always a breeze so it's never blazing hot, and you can always jump in the ocean for a refreshing cool down when the sun beams down on you.  The water is perfect for frolicking, body surfing, sailing, and more!  The shoulder seasons in the spring and Fall have fewer crowds and can be especially pleasant.  Just bring a sweater or jacket for at night when it cools down a bit.  Layers are the key in New England, after all.  Cape Cod Pride is typically held in May and is a great way to kick off the summer season!

Picnicking is popular and you can go gourmet or ultra-casual. A clambake on the beach replete with bonfire and accompanying sparkling wine, lemonade, local beer or ale, or the aforementioned Cape Codder Cocktail is a quintessential Cape Cod summer activity.

HELPFUL TIP:  Dress warmly on the beach as the temperatures can get pretty chilly when the sun goes down.
